The General Meeting of the Russian Academy of Sciences began at the Russian Academy of Sciences, in the Great Hall on Leninsky Prospekt, 32. Elections of the new President of the Russian Academy of Sciences will be held there. According to the President of the Academy Alexander Sergeyev, the quorum required for voting has been reached.
The total number of members of the RAS – academicians and corresponding members – is 2008 people. For the quorum to be effective, it was necessary that 1005 people or more gathered, 1012 people registered. We have a quorum,” Sergeyev said.
A few minutes before the start of the meeting, the Directorate of Information Policy and the Press Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences announced the theft of a special edition of the magazine “In the world of science”, prepared for the election day.
The journal published the programs of three candidates participating in the elections – the current president of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Sergeev, Gennady Krasnikov and Dmitry Markovich. Later, when Alexander Sergeev was already opening the General Meeting, the circulation was found and, albeit belatedly, distributed to academicians, including the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, already in the hall.
