The Gamaleya Center has created a vaccine that protects against several strains of influenza for three to four years. In particular, the drug should protect against swine flu (H1N1) and possibly bird flu (H5N1).
“We’re working on it now, the vaccine will work against the H1N1 variant and many other flu variants, even possibly the H5N1 avian flu. We hope that this vaccine will need to be vaccinated every 3-4 years,” said the director of the center. Gamalei Alexander Gintsburg TASS.
The drug is in the second stage of the study. According to Mr. Gunzburg, experts have come up with a method for producing antibodies to the “stalk” of influenza, which “contains parts common to all influenza viruses.” They practically do not change from one strain to another.
So far, trivalent or quadrivalent vaccines are available to Russians. They need to be vaccinated annually.
