Fukushima-1 operator Tokyo Electric Power studied the destruction of the concrete base of the 1st reactor
Fukushima-1 operator Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO) used an underwater robot equipped with cameras to inspect the interior of the plant’s first reactor. Information was obtained for the first time since the accident in March 2011.
As it turned out, the concrete base of the reactor completely collapsed, exposing the reinforcement. It is assumed that the cause was the high temperature of the melted nuclear fuel.
On March 30, it is planned to publish the pictures taken by the robot.
The accident at the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant occurred on March 11, 2011 as a result of the strongest earthquake in the history of Japan and the tsunami that followed it. It became the second accident after Chernobyl, referred to the maximum level 7 on the International Nuclear Event Scale.
