The FSB of Russia detained a resident of the Krasnodar Territory who tried to leave the country to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), reported on the secret service website.

“The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation stopped the illegal activities of a Russian citizen, a resident of the Krasnodar Territory, suspected of preparing for high treason in the form of going over to the side of the enemy,” the report says.

According to investigators, the citizen initiated contact with an SBU officer involved in the recruitment of volunteers to participate in hostilities in Ukraine, he was detained while trying to travel to Ukraine.

A criminal case was initiated against the detainee under Part 1 of Art. 30, art. 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (preparation for high treason in the form of going over to the side of the enemy).

Yesterday, September 4, FSB reported about the detention of an accomplice of Ukrainian saboteurs in the Zaporozhye region. It turned out to be a citizen of Ukraine born in 1968. According to the department, he was engaged in the assembly of improvised explosive devices for a group of saboteurs who worked on the territory of the Zaporozhye region on the instructions of the main intelligence department of the Ministry of Defense.

Last spring, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed into law a law imposing life sentences for high treason. Citizens can receive such a term for espionage, issuance of information constituting state secrets to foreigners, defecting to the side of the enemy, etc.
