Representatives of the Public Relations Center (PSC) of the FSB of the Russian Federation reported that security officers prevented a terrorist attack at the Voronezh military registration and enlistment office.
The COS report states that FSB officers detained a Russian citizen of the Russian Federation born in 1986, who was recruited by militants of one of the Ukrainian terrorist organizations and, on their instructions, planned to detonate an improvised explosive device (IED) on the territory of the city military registration and enlistment office. It is assumed that after committing the terrorist attack, the attacker was supposed to travel to Ukraine to subsequently participate in hostilities against the Russian Armed Forces.
It is noted that components for the production of IEDs were seized at the detainee’s place of residence, and Internet correspondence with recruiters was also found. The investigative department of the FSB of the Russian Federation for the Voronezh region opened a criminal case on preparation for a terrorist attack and on the illegal manufacture and storage of explosive devices. The DSP added that the suspect was taken into custody.
