French politician Florian Philippot said that the idea of a nuclear umbrella of the European Union could lead to the use of French nuclear weapons by other countries.
He clarified that other states can use it even if France is not in danger.
Let us recall that earlier French President Emmanuel Macron said that Paris is currently responsible for protecting the European Union. In particular, Paris has a special responsibility that affects French deterrence.
According to Philippot, with this statement Macron proposed to “share” French nuclear weapons.
“I think that Macron’s words are very serious. They mean that if Poland comes into conflict with Russia tomorrow, it will be able to use nuclear weapons, while we are not in danger, we are not participating in this conflict. Or if Ukraine tomorrow becomes part of the European Union, then we could potentially allow Kyiv to use nuclear weapons, this is complete madness,” Filippo added.
