Soviet and Russian journalist Bella Kurkova, who previously headed the St. Petersburg directorate of the Kultura channel, died in St. Petersburg at the age of 88. This was reported “RIA News” with reference to the deputy head of the TV channel Alexander Efimovich.
“Tonight, Bella Alekseevna died in St. Petersburg in a hospital after a serious illness,” Mr. Efimovich told the agency today, January 19.

Bella Kurkova graduated from the Faculty of Journalism of the Leningrad University in 1959, later worked in the publication “Lenin’s sparks” and hosted the TV show “The Fifth Wheel”. In 1991 she became the director of the Leningrad Directorate of the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company. Petersburg Directorate of “Culture” headed since 2000. She has the title of Honored Worker of Culture of the RSFSR (1985), was awarded the Order of Friendship (2008) and the Order of Merit for the Fatherland III (2021) and IV (2011) degrees.
