Deputy Foreign Minister Galuzin spoke about the US intention to open a second front against Russia in the South Caucasus

The United States considers the South Caucasus a possible springboard for opening a second front against Moscow. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Mikhail Galuzin spoke about this in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“Washington has long made no secret of the fact that they view the South Caucasus as a springboard for opening a “second front” against Russia,” the diplomat said. Galuzin also added that the US plans are fundamentally contrary to the interests of the peoples of the region.

Earlier, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, noted that Yerevan, “at the suggestion or prompting of the West,” shows its intention to radically change its foreign policy. In her opinion, the actions of the United States and the European Union are aimed at ousting Russia from the South Caucasus.

In 2023, Baku and Yerevan, through the mediation of Russia, the European Union and Brussels, began discussing a future peace treaty. At the end of May, Armenian President Pashinyan announced that the country was ready to recognize the sovereignty of Azerbaijan within Soviet-era borders, that is, together with Karabakh. At the beginning of autumn, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that the leadership of Armenia essentially recognized the sovereignty of Azerbaijan over Karabakh. At the same time, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that Baku and Yerevan could sign a peace treaty before the end of the year if Armenia’s position does not change.
