The Foreign Ministry protested to the British ambassador because of the statements after the sentence of Kara-Murza

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed a strong protest to the British Ambassador to Moscow Deborah Bronnert in connection with her statements after the sentencing of Vladimir Kara-Murza (included in the register of foreign agents), informed MFA.

“On April 18, British Ambassador to Moscow D. Bronnert was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry, who was strongly protested in connection with her own unacceptable statements and provocative statements by the leadership of the British Foreign Office after the Moscow City Court sentenced citizen of the Russian Federation V. Kara-Murza on the case of treason and the spread of fakes about the Russian army,” the ministry said.

The British ambassador was told that Moscow regarded the calls of foreign diplomats to cancel the verdict of the Russian court as gross interference in the internal affairs of the country. The Russian ministry also added that London’s references to Kara-Murza’s British citizenship in the Russian legal field are “legally void.”

“We consider absolutely unacceptable the attempts of UK officials to lecture Russia on human rights issues, especially since London’s cynical and dismissive attitude towards the human rights dossier is well known in the world community,” the Foreign Ministry said.

Earlier today, the Russian Foreign Ministry called ambassadors of the United States, Canada and Great Britain in connection with “gross interference” in the affairs of Russia, as well as due to the implementation of activities that do not correspond to diplomatic status.

Prior to this, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova statedthat the Russian authorities will stop the actions of representatives of the Western countries, which are aimed at inciting hostility in Russian society, and the diplomats involved in this work may be expelled from Russia.

Moscow City Court April 17 sentenced Kara-Murza to 25 years in prison in the case of treason, discrediting the army and participation in the activities of an undesirable organization, as well as to restriction of freedom for a period of six months and a fine of 400,000 rubles.
