The Foreign Ministry explained the US decision to supply tanks to Ukraine

One of the reasons for Washington’s announcement of plans to supply tanks to Ukraine is the desire to “level up the NATO ranks,” said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.
Washington on January 25 announced plans to supply Kyiv with 31 M1 Abrams tanks, Berlin promised 14 Leopard 2 tanks, as well as permission for other countries to re-export such tanks to Ukraine. On January 25, the defense departments of Norway and Slovakia announced their intention to transfer tanks to Kyiv, and earlier the authorities of Great Britain, Poland and France also announced the decision to provide tanks to Ukraine.
In an interview with RIA Novosti, Ryabkov stressed that the United States is denying the obvious, saying that the supply of weapons such as tanks to Kyiv does not contribute to the escalation of the conflict, and in fact this is an “extremely destructive step.”
He also noted the paradoxical nature of the statements from Washington.
“After the decision on the direction of Abrams tanks in significant numbers, discussions begin that this is not an escalation. Denial of the obvious,” Ryabkov said.
He noted that Washington took this step in front of the eyes of the international community. Earlier, the UN did not approve the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
“The Americans took this step in order to straighten the NATO rank again, their system … All this is being implemented in such a form, which, as I understand it, is experiencing growing concern about where this Western group of irresponsible, if not to say, lost-minded politicians or politicians is pushing the world “, – he said.
