The evacuation was carried out due to “high security risks in the face of ongoing fighting in Sudan.” Part of the employees of the Russian embassy, ​​which was transferred to this city from the capital of Sudan, Khartoum, was taken out of the city of Port Sudan.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also said that several Russians and members of their families have asked for assistance in returning to Russia. On August 1, a special flight of the Military Transport Aviation of the Ministry of Defense with Russians from Sudan arrived at the Chkalovsky airfield near Moscow. The Foreign Ministry report does not specify how many people were taken out of the country.

“The work of the Russian Embassy in Port Sudan continues as usual,” the ministry stressed.
