The Foreign Ministry announced the debunking of five “myths” of the European Union

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that it had “debunked the myths” spread by the leadership of the European Union. Office on its website published five statements previously made by European officials and Moscow’s responses to them.

Statements by EU representatives relate to sanctions and the situation with food and energy in the world. In particular, the Ministry cites the words of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, who said that the EU considers the export of Russian wheat as a “geopolitical tool” or “political weapon”. According to the Foreign Ministry, Borrell “disavows his own statement about the non-direction of anti-Russian unilateral EU sanctions against the supply of domestic food and fertilizers.”

The agency also responded to the assertion from the European Parliament resolution on the availability of fertilizers in the EU. The document says that “farmers from other regions, such as Russia and South America, have access to much cheaper fertilizers, which undermine the competitiveness of farmers from the EU.” The European Parliament called on the European Commission to prepare a strategy aimed at reducing the dominant role of Moscow in the world market of fertilizers and food.

“Obviously, they judge by themselves. The moaning of the European deputies is yet another confirmation that the EU sanctions are deliberately directed against Russian exports of fertilizers and food to squeeze Russia out of the traditional segments of the global agricultural market without taking into account the associated risks for global food security,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Moscow also “debunked the myth” about sanctions that “do not exacerbate the global food crisis”, argued with Borrell about the reasons for the decline in food and energy prices, and commented on his statement about the consequences of hostilities, which are of a “planetary scale”.

“Regular statements by European officials about growing risks in the field of food security and plans to introduce more and more new sanctions are heating up grain and food prices on the world market. Given the psychology of the market, this inevitably affects the cost of cargo insurance and other related services. As a result, for the population of countries in need, food is becoming less accessible,” the ministry said.

The European Union must lift direct and indirect sanctions that hinder the supply of grain, fertilizers and raw materials necessary for their production, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Grushko said at the end of December. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, commenting on the ninth package of sanctions, spokethat the painful consequences of the anti-Russian policy for the EU will increase. According to her, EU sanctions also harm developing countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, which are not able to compete with the West in the struggle for resources.
