Lavrov, in a conversation with Blinken, also indicated that Gershkovich was caught red-handed in an attempt to obtain secret information. The US citizen, according to the minister, carried out “under the guise of a journalistic status, collecting data constituting a state secret.” The US embassies in Moscow have been notified of the journalist’s detention, and a court will determine his fate, the statement said.
The Foreign Ministry added that during the conversation, the parties also discussed other “topical issues of a bilateral nature.”

According to the intelligence service, the journalist collected secret information “about the activities of one of the enterprises of the Russian military-industrial complex.” Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the journalist was caught red-handed. Later, the Lefortovo Court of Moscow arrested the journalist until May 29.
