The first stage of construction of a unique ski-roller stadium is being completed in Chelyabinsk

A multifunctional stadium is being built on Abrikosova Street near Karpov Pond. At a press conference of the Granada Press media holding, Maxim Kleshchevnikov, head of the department for physical culture and sports of the Chelyabinsk administration, explained that the construction of the first stage is coming to an end – now they are completing work on connecting electricity. Recall that this is a very necessary facility for the city, because our athletes did not have such a track where they could practice in winter and summer.

“In winter, the situation is aggravated by the fact that daylight hours are short, which means that there is less time for sports. The uniqueness of this track is that it is located in the Central District of the city, it is the northern slope, the track is compact, located in a birch forest. It was in this place that the Ural ski battalions trained during the Great Patriotic War, here the fighters were trained and went to the front, ”explained Maxim Kleshchevnikov.

What has already been done? A 2.5-kilometer ski-roller track was built, a stadium 250 by 80 meters, a fence was installed, 20 equipped wax cabins – rooms for changing clothes and preparing equipment before entering the track. Work is underway to organize the parking space and landscaping the territory. Additionally, a modular toilet for guests will be installed.

“All this will already allow holding competitions not only at the regional level, but also at the Russian one. The uniqueness of this object is that the height difference – 150 meters by 5 kilometers – meets all the homologation requirements for ski slopes. The stadium will be commissioned at the end of the year. Veterans and athletes have already begun to master the track. When there was no snow, cyclists rode roller skis there,” says Maksim Kleshchevnikov.

At the second stage, an open biathlon shooting range will be equipped, a ski-roller track will be extended, work on water supply and sanitation, organization of parking spaces and outdoor sports grounds will continue. At the third stage, the construction of a sports and recreation complex will begin.

Vladimir Voronov, Director of School No. 5, noted that both the terrain of the track and its location will allow holding the largest sports competitions on it.

“Sports enthusiasts will certainly appreciate the quality of training at this track. Recently, the Olympic champion Sergey Ustyugov visited us, he was surprised that such an object is being built in Chelyabinsk,” the speaker noted.

“Our athletes trained in Zlatoust, went to training camps in Abzakovo – it’s expensive and far away. On the new track, thanks to the lighting, it will be possible to train at any time, ”summed up Natalia Sokolova, Honored Master of Sports in biathlon, 14-time European champion, coach of MBU SShOR No. 5.
