Svetlana Korabovtseva, a member of the Lokomotiv-Kamenka team from the Penza region, received the title of champion of Russia.
In the Russian Women’s Rugby Championship, Svetlana played for the CPSK team.
In the final game, her team defeated the team from Moscow with a score of 7:0. Korabovtseva played as a hooker against teams from the Volga region, and was also a substitute against teams from Siberia and Tatarstan.
The championship was her first experience in classic rugby. She previously played rugby sevens.
She shared that she initially did not want to participate in the training camp because of the unusual format of the game and other obligations, but the coach Maxim Lyubimkin insisted, and she decided to try.
This achievement is of great importance not only for Svetlana, but also for Penza sports, as she became the first Russian champion in classic rugby in the 60-year history of rugby in Penza.
