The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) registered a complaint by the coordinator of the Golos movement (recognized as a foreign media agent) from Tver Artem Vazhenkov to be included in the register of foreign media agents and a fine of 10 thousand rubles. for lack of appropriate labeling. About this with reference to the database of the ECtHR informed head of the human rights group “Agora” Pavel Chikov. According to him, this is the first complaint from a foreign media agent registered in an international court.
Mr. Vazhenkov addressed at the ECtHR in May. According to the human rights activist, today, August 3, the court notified that the complaint was registered. The head of Agora recalled that two more Golos coordinators, former lawyer of journalist Ivan Safronov Ivan Pavlov, publisher of Mediazona Pyotr Verzilov and Yakut human rights activist Stepan Petrov also applied to the ECHR in connection with their inclusion in the register of foreign media agents.
The Russian courts have never declared the decision of the Ministry of Justice illegal, Mr. Chikov wrote. He noted that most of the cases are considered by the Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow, Judge Nelli Rubtsova.
Recall that the Ministry of Justice for the first time expelled from the register of media-foreign agents of two individuals at the end of April. They were co-founder of Golos Arkady Lyubarev and coordinator of the organization Lyudmila Kuzmina.
In June, the State Duma adopted a draft law “On Control over the Activities of Persons Under Foreign Influence,” which tightens the law on foreign agents. For example, they want to prohibit them from engaging in teaching, educational and educational activities.
