For the first time since the beginning of the cold season, 50-degree frosts hit the Sakha Republic. In the Russian “pole of cold” – the village of Oymyakon – a temperature of -52.4 degrees was recorded in the morning. This was reported by the Yakutsk Department of Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring.
In four more settlements of Yakutia, thermometers came very close to -50. At the same time, temperatures below minus forty-five were recorded at 16 observation points on the territory of the Sakha Republic.
A powerful cold snap has arrived in Yakutia. Before this, the temperature in Oymyakon had never dropped below -45.5. In the capital of the republic the temperature dropped by 12 degrees. For the first time since the beginning of the cold season, 40-degree frosts were recorded in Yakutsk.
Earlier, the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center, Roman Vilfand, in an interview with TASS, warned about increased frosts in a significant part of Russia – from Chukotka and Magadan to the north-west of the country. He noted that the cold will come to Central Russia. On December 5-6, in some places in the regions of the Central Federal District the temperature may drop to -23.
