An open fire on the territory of the shopping and entertainment center “Mercury” in Ufa on an area of 1.5 thousand square meters. m. was eliminated, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported. The fire of the third rank of complexity was extinguished at 1:46 Moscow time, a message about a fire received at 19:36 Moscow time. It was extinguished by 28 pieces of equipment and 78 firefighters. There were no injured or dead.
According to eyewitnesses, the mall caught fire very quickly: the fire broke out first on the second floor, then spread to the third, and then to the roof. The petting zoo was evacuated along with the mall visitors.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, in February in the shopping center “Mercury” revealed 56 fire safety violations. Violations concerned, among other things, evacuation routes. After the inspection, the management of the mall was brought to administrative punishment.
Due to violations of fire safety standards in March 2018, 60 people (including 37 children) died in the Kemerovo shopping center “Winter Cherry”. Most of the dead could not get out of the cinema hall, because fire exits were blocked there.
