The Finnish Ministry of Internal Affairs intends to close the checkpoint on the border with Russia

The Finnish Ministry of Internal Affairs is preparing to restrict entry through crossing points on the border with Russia, up to their closure. This was stated by the head of the department, Marie Rantanen, RIA Novosti reports. The country’s authorities explained the decision by the flow of refugees from Somalia, Yemen, Syria and other countries.

“The Ministry of Internal Affairs is preparing a proposal according to which border crossing points will be closed or their work will be limited. Current legislation allows this,” said Rantanen (quote according to RIA Novosti).

According to the minister, the Finnish authorities discussed with Russia the problem of the uncontrolled flow of refugees from Somalia, Yemen, Syria and other countries. However, the negotiations allegedly did not bring the desired result for Helsinki. About the arrival from the Russian border of 21 refugees with citizenship of the listed countries on November 13 reported Finnish customs. The arrivals did not have visas.

October 20, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed order to terminate the agreement between Russia and Finland on promoting cross-border cooperation. It was concluded in 2012. In it, the parties agreed to expand friendly ties between the peoples of the countries and develop long-term cross-border cooperation.
