The Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has allowed the transportation of fertilizers on a ship that was detained in the local port of Kotka in connection with anti-Russian EU sanctions.

The Finnish foreign ministry said in a statement that the ministry received a request from a fertilizer buyer for an exception on March 19.

Thus, on March 22, the relevant permission was granted.

“Fertilizers will be sent to a third country to promote food security,” the ministry explained its decision.

Earlier, YLE reported that a ship with fertilizers was detained in the Finnish port of Kotka. Part of the cargo is allegedly related to a Russian citizen, against whom the EU has imposed sanctions. On the ship, according to unconfirmed information of the publication, there are approximately 20 thousand tons of fertilizers. Their cost is estimated at 480-600 euros per ton, therefore, the total market value of the cargo is 10-12 million euros. The Smew vessel is registered in Cyprus, the report specified.
