His program included five national disciplines
In Naryan-Mar and in the village of Nelmin-Nos, as part of the celebration of the Day of the Deer, a festival of national sports “The Power of the Tundra” was held. The festival program consisted of five national disciplines: stick pulling, sledge jumping, national triple jump, tynzei throwing, belt wrestling. Master classes were held for fans of national sports. The festival was organized by the non-profit organization NJSC “For a Healthy Lifestyle”.
The Powers of the Tundra festival was organized with a grant from the Internal Policy Department of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug and is aimed at popularizing the Nenets sports culture and promoting a healthy lifestyle, according to the portal of state bodies of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
— Modern national sports of the peoples of the North originate in the way of life of their ancestors. All five disciplines are closely related to the traditional way of life of reindeer herders. Without these skills, it’s not only impossible to succeed in the tundra, but sometimes you simply can’t survive,” said Alexander Terletsky, head of the NGO For a Healthy Lifestyle in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
All participants of the festival received memorable prizes. According to the organizers, they plan to hold such competitions on a regular basis so that more people learn about the national sports of the indigenous peoples of the NAO.
