The Federation Council proposed creating an international organization to protect journalists

Russia needs to create its own international organization to protect the rights of journalists on the basis of friendly countries, stated Head of the Federation Council Commission on Information Policy and Interaction with the Media Alexey Pushkov.
“We need to create our own organization on the basis of states friendly to us. Perhaps this will be a working group under one of the international organizations in which we actively participate or lead them,” Pushkov suggested at the All Russia 2023 forum (quote from TASS).
The senator noted that there are many NGOs in the West that are involved in protecting journalists, but “they are ineffective” and can be caught violating the principles of international law. Pushkov plans to discuss the issue of establishing such an organization with Russian foreign policy structures.
Previously, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov notedthat the West is not abandoning attempts to denigrate the image of Russia and African states in the media space. In this regard, according to him, the proactive and responsible work of journalists is in demand. He is convinced that media representatives will be able to “form a constructive information and news agenda” that will be based “on truth and facts, and not on manipulations and fiction.”
