The Federation Council intends to announce the date of presidential elections in December

The date of the 2024 presidential elections will likely be announced by the Federation Council in December, said Andrei Klimov, head of the Federation Council commission for protecting state sovereignty and preventing interference in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation.
“The elections have not been announced. The Federation Council announces the elections. Apparently this will be done in December. Well, according to the Constitution, in fact, too, as the president recently mentioned,” said Klimov during a visit to Ankara (quote from RIA Novosti).
He recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously called questions about his participation in the elections premature.
Presidential elections in Russia are scheduled for 2024. According to the law, the procedure takes place on the third Sunday of March, i.e. next year the elections may take place on March 17. The CEC has already begun preparations for the elections, CEC Chairman Ella Pamfilova said earlier.
On September 11, Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that the president would make a decision on participating in the elections after voting dates were set and candidates were nominated. On the same day, Peskov noted that if Putin nominates his candidacy for the 2024 presidential elections, no one will be able to give him real competition. In September the head of state didn’t talk about participation in the presidential elections and suggested waiting for the parliament’s decision on the date of their holding.
On October 7, the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, proposed canceling the Russian presidential elections while the special operation was underway, or holding a vote with one candidate – the current head of state.
