The US refusal to ratify the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) is forcing Russia to reconsider its strategy on the nuclear issue. This was stated by Anatoly Antonov, the Russian Ambassador in Washington.

He recalled that Moscow ratified the CTBT back in 2000, considering it an important international document. However, the long-awaited retaliatory step from the United States has not come, and this causes serious concern.

“We and the vast majority of the international community have expected for more than a quarter of a century that the United States would follow our example, showing itself to be a responsible nuclear power. Our expectations were in vain. Washington’s inaction forces us to take steps to restore balance within the CTBT. Violation of global strategic parity is unacceptable,” he emphasized Ambassador, his words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

The Russian diplomat stressed that the American leadership continues to maintain its nuclear infrastructure, including the Nevada test site, in readiness for possible nuclear tests.
