The Federation Council approved the law on confiscation of property for fakes about the army

On Wednesday, during a meeting of the Federation Council, senators unanimously approved a bill that introduces the possibility of confiscation of property of persons found guilty of disseminating deliberately false information about the Russian Armed Forces or calling for actions against the security of the country.
Previously, the first deputy chairman of the constitutional committee of the Federation Council, Vladimir Poletaev, explained that not only criminal punishment would be applied to those responsible for these crimes, but also such a measure as confiscation of property if it was acquired or used to commit or finance a crime. At the same time, confiscation is not a punishment, but another measure of criminal law that will be used in order to prevent further commission of a crime or to provide a preventive effect.
Previously, property confiscation was used for terrorist and extremist crimes. The new law expands the list of such crimes.
The bill involves making appropriate changes to the Criminal and Criminal Procedure Codes.
