During a plenary meeting, the Federation Council approved a law establishing the minimum wage (minimum wage) from January 1, 2024 at 19,242 rubles. Next year, the minimum wage will be 18.5% higher than that set for 2023—RUB 16,242. It is expected that this measure will increase wages for 4.8 million people.
The government submitted the project for consideration to the State Duma on September 29 on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The document was submitted along with the draft federal budget for 2024–2026. In addition, the law provides for an increase in the ratio of the minimum wage and median wage from 42% to 48% from 2025.
From June 2022, the minimum wage was increased to 15,279 rubles, from January 2023 – to 16,242. Taking into account the increase in 2024, the minimum wage for three years (from 13,890 rubles as of January 1, 2022) will increase by more than one and a half times – by 66.5%.
