The Federation Council announced the preparation of proposals for the international tribunal for Ukraine

Vice Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev spoke about the preparation by senators of proposals for the creation of an international tribunal for Ukraine.

“I am personally a convinced supporter of creating my own international tribunal on what is happening in Ukraine,” he said (quote according to RIA Novosti). He specified that the tribunal should be set up like the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.

In the summer of 2022, Alexander Bastrykin, Chairman of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia spoke with a proposal to create a similar tribunal, but for the crimes of the Kyiv authorities in the Donbass and Ukraine. He proposed to involve Russia’s allies and like-minded people, in particular the BRICS, the CIS and the SCO, in its creation.

On March 17, the Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Maria Lvova-Belova, Commissioner for Children’s Rights in the Russian Federation. Peskov said that the decisions of the ICC have no legal force and are void. Three days after the issuance of the warrant, the Russian Investigative Committee opened a criminal case against ICC prosecutor Karim Ahmad Khan, as well as judges Tomoko Akane, Rosario Salvatore Aytala and Sergio Gerardo Ugalde Godinez.
