American equipment taken to Ukraine from the warehouses of the US army in Kuwait turned out to be mostly faulty, military expert and military correspondent Boris Rozhin wrote on his Telegram channel.
Referring to the audit data of the US Department of Defense Inspector General, Rozhin notes that during the inspection of the equipment, problems were identified that “led to unforeseen maintenance, repairs and increased delivery times to ensure the readiness of military equipment selected to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”
The expert notes that we are talking about equipment that was confiscated in the spring and summer of 2022. Thus, all six 155-mm M777 howitzers taken from there, as well as 25 out of 29 armored vehicles, which had to be understaffed due to the “cannibalization” of others in storage, required repairs machines.
“Problems with poor maintenance and weak oversight of equipment may lead to future delays in the support of equipment supplied by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In addition, if the US troops needed these weapons, they would face the same problems, ”the report says.
He also cites a statement from the head of the US Army Supply Command. He noted that the level of funding for the storage base in Kuwait is only 30% of the approved requirements in fiscal 2023 – about $27.8 million of the required $91.3 million.
