The Federal Tax Service (FTS) of Russia is working on a simplified procedure for deductions for sports, treatment and education, said the head of the department, Daniil Egorov. The tax service plans to test the information system in 2024. It is expected that the Federal Tax Service will begin to provide social deductions in a simplified manner in 2025.
Daniil Egorov in an interview RBC noted that the Federal Tax Service has already automated investment and property deductions. The department receives information about transactions from banks and pre-fills data for taxpayers.
“The second task is to speed up the process as much as possible through automation. Now we go further – a law has been adopted that concerns social deductions. During 2024, we will pilot and test the information system and communication channels with sources of data on treatment, training, fitness, and so on,” he added. The head of the Federal Tax Service drew attention to the fact that for personal income tax the terms for returning money have already been reduced, and for VAT more than 80% are returned within a month.
Since May 2021, legislative changes have come into force providing for the possibility of obtaining a tax deduction without the need to submit a 3-NDFL declaration to the tax authorities. From 2022, citizens will be provided with a tax deduction for sports and recreational services.
In April, the State Duma adopted a law increasing the amount of tax deductions for expenses on education, treatment and the purchase of medicines. The size of the tax deduction for expenses on personal training, treatment (including family members) and the purchase of medicines increased from 120 thousand to 150 thousand rubles. The maximum amount of expenses that are taken into account when providing a personal income tax deduction for a child’s education has increased from 50 thousand to 110 thousand rubles.
