A resident of Yekaterinburg, Dmitry Bakhtin, was again detained by police on Monday, October 9, on Red Square in Moscow. A man came to the Kremlin with a poster “Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, save the child.” A correspondent from one of the online publications who was filming a single picket was also detained.
Bakhtin was sent to the Kitay-Gorod police station.
At the end of August, the man was already detained on Red Square, then his two-year-old son, suffering from spinal muscular atrophy, went to the department with him. Since the birth of the child, the family has been trying to cure the boy from a fatal disease; charitable foundations provide financial assistance to the parents. During this time, Bakhtin repeatedly talked about how he managed to buy expensive drugs not produced in Russia, which made it possible to slow down the disease. However, according to the family, Russian officials are preventing the child from being given another drug that could cure him. In 2022, the court ordered officials to purchase the drug for the child at state expense, but the Sverdlovsk authorities refused to give the medicine. Health Minister Andrei Karlov then explained that officials had complied with the court decision, but would not give the medicine because “there is not a single doctor ready to give the boy an injection.”
After his arrest at the end of August, Bakhtin said that the police released him a short time later without a protocol, adding that “we are not animals”. The family’s lawyer stated that after this incident, everyone expects that the child will finally be given the medicine. Head of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin stated that he was taking over the situation under your control.
Presumably, the child was never given the medicine. During today’s single picket, two police officers, two National Guard members and one police patrol car came to detain Bakhtin.
According to a number of reports, the man was released from the department after a couple of hours and again without a protocol.
