On Friday, March 15, the famous Voronezh athlete Dmitry Sautin celebrates his 50th birthday. The Olympic champion (the only winner in history of 8 Olympic medals in diving) still lives in his native Voronezh, despite the fact that he could have long ago moved to Moscow, and even to England.

As you know, our famous fellow countryman graduated from the Institute of Physical Education and Sports in Voronezh. Dmitry has been diving from a springboard since he was 7 years old, and already at 17 he took his first silver at the European Championships in Athens as a member of the USSR national team. Starting in 1991, Sautin’s sports career took off, and he brought one award after another to his native Voronezh.

In 2010, Sautin was appointed vice-president of the All-Russian Diving Federation. He is a reserve colonel in the Russian Armed Forces. Has three children. At the age of 36, he left big sports and took up coaching.
