In winter, a dog on the street faces a number of dangers, President of the Russian Cynological Federation Vladimir Golubev said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
To begin with, he urged to pay attention to the well-being of the dog on the street. Hypothermia, injuries from falls and allergies to reagents can become a threat.
“You don’t need to severely limit your pet and worry too much, but you should take into account the characteristics of the pet: how often does it freeze, how active is it on the street, does it have any chronic diseases that can worsen in cold weather,” the expert said.
According to him, small dogs without hair or with short hair, puppies, as well as elderly and short-legged pets are more susceptible to hypothermia. At the same time, each dog can freeze, at first it will become lethargic and apathetic, and if you do not take action, there will be problems with breathing and heart rhythm. Most often, a dog’s paws, ears, scrotum and mammary glands suffer from frostbite.
The expert called for strengthening the dog’s immunity, providing a balanced diet and preventive trips to the veterinarian. According to him, special clothes and shoes for the dog will not interfere.
