Many dog breeds love to walk in snowy weather, but snow can hide serious dangers, Vladimir Golubev, president of the Russian Cynological Federation (RKF), said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to him, if you are not careful, the dog can get seriously injured or face other troubles. Golubev pointed out that, for example, sharp objects can be hidden under the snow – glass, sharp metal cans, construction fittings and rods. In addition, holes or ice may also be covered with snow.
In addition, if a dog starts eating snow, it may be poisoned by the reagents. “Therefore, it is best not to allow the dog to mindlessly dive into the snow and monitor its behavior during a walk,” the expert said.
Golubev also recommended not to walk in unfamiliar places in snowy weather. He also recalled that in the cold, a dog may not immediately feel pain from an injury.
The expert noted that a wet dog can quickly become hypothermic.
“Trembling and chills are the first important signals for a dog owner. If you miss them and don’t return home on time, this can lead to health problems for your pet,” he said.
