The expert spoke about innovative solutions for work on the green metro line

On May 10, 2023, train traffic resumed on the Avtozavodskaya – Orekhovo section of the Zamoskvoretskaya metro line. The site was blocked for the construction of new tunnels between Tsaritsyno and Kantemirovskaya, which initially, in the 1980s, were built with poor waterproofing. Mosmetrostroy and the Moscow Metro carried out works that were unprecedented in terms of timing, scope and bold engineering solutions.
According to Dmitry Konyukhov, Associate Professor of the Mining Institute of NUST MISiS, for the first time in Russia and in the world, an innovative method was used to repair tunnel structures that had failed. Previously, according to him, two approaches were used to repair existing transport tunnels, different for strong and unstable soils.
“In the case of the Zamoskvoretskaya line, a fundamentally new strategic approach was developed, which saved time and money,” said Konyukhov.
Before closing the traffic between Avtozavodskaya and Orekhovo, a thorough examination of the structures was carried out.
“The distillation tunnels were divided into three main sections. The first needed a complete replacement, the second needed to strengthen the lining and waterproofing, and the third needed to repair individual elements and seal the seams. When replacing sections of tunnels, it was impossible to build detours. Therefore, these areas were excavated from the surface, dismantled, and then new structures were assembled.”
