A statement appeared on the official website of the International Judo Federation announcing the decision to remove Russian and Belarusian athletes from international tournaments until January 2023. Prior to this, the IJF allowed the participation of athletes from these countries in competitions in a neutral status.
The statement said the decision was made “in light of current international circumstances.”
The federation was also guided by the task of “ensuring the protection of all athletes involved in judo.”
Earlier, the Ukrainian Federation threatened to boycott the World Championships in Tashkent in October this year if Russian athletes go there.
