The ex-operative convicted in the Golunov case came up with an original punishment: “A normal person will not last long there”

The other day it became known that the former operative Maxim Umetbaev, convicted in the case of journalist Ivan Golunov, will be released from the colony. The ex-policeman will be sent to expiate his guilt in the Nizhny Novgorod region. He will live in a correctional center, work at JSC Lindovskaya Poultry Farm – Breeding Plant.

The case of Ivan Golunov became one of the most resonant events of 2019. Recall that the journalist was detained in Moscow on suspicion of drug trafficking. Golunov was saved by a large-scale public campaign that unfolded in his defense. As a result, five policemen ended up in the dock, who were accused of falsifying evidence in the journalist’s case.

Recently it became known that three convicts were released from the colony. Their punishment was replaced by forced labor. One of the convicts, former police officer Maxim Umetbaev, will be sent to expiate his guilt at a poultry farm near Nizhny Novgorod. He will live in the village of Spasskoe, not far from the new place of work.

Lindovskaya poultry farm is located 43 km from Nizhny Novgorod. Announcements about hiring specialists for the enterprise regularly appear on city forums. Under each post, poultry workers leave angry comments, people complain about working conditions and low wages.

“It is easier for an enterprise to recruit cheap labor force – prisoners, guest workers and refugees, than to increase the salary of employees” – this is what most of the comments look like.

But the complainants are afraid to tell journalists about the problems: “We will be fired, and there is no other job in the village. Just be patient.”

Out of a dozen respondents, only one woman agreed to describe the situation at the poultry farm and tell how prisoners live and work.

– Salaries at the poultry farm – 7,800 rubles plus a 60 percent bonus, there are still allowances for harmfulness, – the interlocutor lists. – Total accumulates 23-25 ​​thousand rubles a month. Quite a bit, considering that working at a poultry farm is hard physical labor. The flow is terrible. Remain pensioners and those who live nearby. Starting from the new year, the salary began to be delayed for 2-3 weeks. Employees think that managers are pushing them to leave in this way. They began to recruit convicts for the vacated places, who work carelessly. They’re running out of time, and that’s fine. They don’t care about the quality and execution of the plan. For all the shoals, they still ask ordinary employees of the enterprise.

According to the interlocutor, there are more than two hundred prisoners at the enterprise. The convicts live in the village of Spasskoye in the urban district of Bor, with a population of about 500 people.

“The correctional center where the convicts live looks like a hostel,” the woman continues. – The building is renovated and equipped. The locals do not even dream of such conditions. They have refrigerators, washing machines, showers, equipped kitchens. According to rumors, many settle in rented apartments. The convicts do not complain about living conditions. They express dissatisfaction only with the hard slave labor at the poultry farm and the small salary that they always receive on time, unlike ordinary workers. The salary of the convicts is the same as the rest. They are given vacation, which they spend at their place of residence. It seems that they are not serving time, but resting at a resort. At the poultry farm, they calmly communicate with all workers. We even had an affair between a convict and a factory worker, they got married.

Vyacheslav Metalichenko worked for a couple of months at a poultry farm near Magnitogorsk. The man believes that you will not envy the former operative. Not everyone can withstand even a couple of months of work at such an enterprise: “When they ask on social networks whether it is worth getting a job at a poultry farm, I answer: run away from there headlong.”

A normal person won’t last long there. In addition to the terrible stink and cold, you can’t sit down, you are constantly on the move. Even in young healthy men, at the end of the shift, the back fell off. I was always waiting for a smoke break or lunch to warm up, – recalls Vyacheslav. – I’m not surprised that prisoners are sent to the poultry farm. They came there of their own free will only out of desperation. We had a diverse group. Mostly citizens of the CIS countries. Tajiks lived there in general. But the Russians also came, who showed that they needed any kind of work. Sometimes young guys arranged themselves, but they did not know what awaited them. There were enough pensioners – people of the age were put on points simpler, but even there it was not easy. We were taken to the enterprise by bus, which departed from Magnitogorsk at 6 am. We drove to the poultry farm for an hour. For several months of work, I never sat down there. The people were filled with darkness. When they got on the bus, there were fights. Returned home at 20.00, if you’re lucky.

According to the interlocutor, the former operative Umetbaev will most likely be assigned to a slaughterhouse, where working conditions are the most unbearable.

“There is always a shortage of people in the slaughterhouse. I was listed there as a handyman,” continues Vyacheslav. – They put me on different points: they removed the skin from the carcasses, put the bones in bags. He also carried heavy basins with skins. Everything had to be done quickly, and at the same time one had to manage not to slip – there were skins everywhere on the floor. I fell twice a day into this mixture of puddles, skins, blood and meat. Under such conditions, there is no time to pay attention to the terrible stench, they worked like on a conveyor belt. The salary was 17 thousand rubles.

When asked how long it would take for an ex-policeman to train, Vyacheslav grins: “Nobody is specifically taught this profession.”

Another former employee of a poultry farm in the Russian region shared her impressions of her work: “I decided to get a job there because I needed money. And the poultry farm is always short of workers. I stood at the packing of the bird. The work is monotonous, not easy, at first my hands hurt. As a rule, residents of rural areas work at such enterprises. The villagers are used to hunching over a sack of potatoes, and here they endure. One gets the impression that poultry farms are specially built in places where there is no choice. And the factory management uses it. In addition to the locals, guest workers were brought to our enterprise by buses, who worked on a rotational basis. Some worked for 48 hours with a short break for sleep so as not to faint. The authorities demanded the implementation of the plan so as not to lose money. The smell was such that some people vomited. I worked for a year and a half at a poultry farm, I have never seen a more hellish place. Shifts are 12-16 hours. Two breaks of 20 minutes. Came back home and fell down. Lost 10 kg. I felt that I was finished, so I ran away. So you won’t envy the prisoners. It will be easier to sit in the colony.”
