The ex-mayor of Arkhangelsk was detained along with the participants of the rally in elite cars

The former mayor of Arkhangelsk, Alexander Donskoy, said that he was detained along with participants in a sports car rally in the center of Moscow. Mr. Donskoy spoke about this on the page in “In contact with”.

Alexander Donskoy said that his detention was not related to his participation in an “unauthorized” motor rally. He stated that he was detained when he was standing on the stairs of Moscow City after breakfast, waiting for a taxi. According to Mr. Donskoy, he was “beaten up by law enforcement officers.” He also claims that he is not allowed to leave the police station for more than seven hours.

Participants of the rally in Moscow, in which more than two hundred sports cars took part, were detained police officers on 28 August. The main department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Moscow reported that the participants in the races planned to hold an uncoordinated “mass public action.” According to Russian law, motor rallies must be subject to mandatory approval.

Alexander Donskoy was mayor of Arkhangelsk from 2005 to 2008. In 2008, he was fined in a fake diploma case. In the same year, he became a defendant in a case of abuse of power when using security guards for personal purposes. He was banned from holding elective office for two years. Then he submitted his resignation.

In 2017, the former mayor of Arkhangelsk was detained when he drove a red Ferrari through a shopping center in Moscow. According to Donskoy, it was a “performance”.
