By decision of the Moscow City Court, Arian Romanovsky, the former editor-in-chief of the Russian edition of Tatler magazine, remained under arrest in the case of extortion of 11 million rubles. at the head of Rostec Sergey Chemezov. The accused maintains his innocence and petitions for a lighter measure of restraint.
“The decision is left unchanged, the appeal is not satisfied,” RIA Novosti quotes the verdict of judge Elena Lavrova. The defense of Mr. Romanovsky provided the investigation with positive characteristics of the accused from the Conde Nas holding, TSUM and other well-known companies, who called the accused “an honest journalist, a diplomatic and polite person.”
The journalist’s lawyer Dmitry Malyutov intends to appeal against the arrest of his client in the cassation procedure.
Earlier today Moscow City Court refused in an appeal against the arrest of the commercial director of the journalist Ksenia Sobchak, Kirill Sukhanov, who is involved in the same case with Mr. Romanovsky.
According to investigators, the defendants ran the “Turn Out the Light” Telegram channel, administered by Ms. Sobchak (the journalist denies information about her connection with the resource). It allegedly contained publications that discredited Sergei Chemezov, for the removal of which the journalists asked the head of Rostec for 11 million rubles. In connection with the criminal case Ksenia Sobchak apologized before Sergei Chemezov.
