The EC thought about the impact of anti-Russian sanctions on the availability of medicines for Europeans
The European Parliament (EP) is thinking about the availability of medicines for residents of the European Union (EU) due to the sanctions imposed on Russia. Member of the European Parliament from Italy, Susanna Ceccardi, asked the corresponding question in her address to the European Commission (EC).
The politician recalled that on December 19 last year, the EU adopted the next, 12th package of anti-Russian sanctions, which included bans on, among other things, the intra-corporate provision of services and software. In her opinion, in a number of sectors these measures could prevent the sanctions from working as intended, as they could impede the smooth flow of products and patient access to essential medicines.
“Ensuring that all medicines and related activities remain exempt from all direct and indirect sanctions is of paramount importance to ensure that EU patients can continue to access the treatment they need,” the MEP for Italy Suzanna Ceccardi.
She also asked the European Commission if it could confirm that medicines still enjoy a general exemption and do not have to comply with the new requirements imposed by the sanctions.
