Vice-Speaker of the EP Etienne spoke out against Ukraine’s rapid accession to the EU
Deputy Speaker of the European Parliament (EP) and German politician Jan-Christoph Etienne opposed allowing Ukraine into the European Union according to a quick scenario. He stated this in an interview with Nordwest-Zeitung.
Etienne stressed that he supports EU enlargement, but countries that want to become members of the union must fulfill necessary requirements such as the rule of law and the fight against corruption.
“Therefore, there can be no early acceptance of Ukraine,” the European politician noted.
At the same time, the member of the European Parliament added that the EU could strengthen cooperation with Kiev in order to speed up the process of the country’s accession to the European Union.
