The European Commission sent Ukraine 500 million euros as part of the previously promised package of macro-financial assistance, this is the last tranche in the current year, informed the representative of the press service of the European Commission on Twitter.
“Today, we paid the third tranche of €500 million as part of the €5 billion exceptional macro-financial assistance to Ukraine for 2022. This will contribute to Ukraine’s macroeconomic stability and strengthen its overall economic and financial resilience,” the statement said.
On May 18, the European Commission announced the preparation of an emergency macro-financial lending program for Ukraine in the amount of 9 billion euros under EU guarantees until the end of 2022. In early August, the EU already listed 1 billion euros from the financial aid package.
In early November, First Deputy Head of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis informedthat the European Union will not be able to allocate 3 billion euros to Ukraine out of the promised 9 billion euros. At the same time, he suggested considering how to quickly allocate to Ukraine half of the next tranche of the 18 billion euros of macro-financial assistance envisaged for 2023.
Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began on February 24. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the protection of the inhabitants of Donbass, as well as the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, its goals. In response, Western countries imposed large-scale sanctions against Russia and began to provide military assistance to Ukraine.
