The holding and results of the Russian elections in Crimea and Sevastopol, held on a single voting day on September 9-11, will not be recognized by the European Union. This is stated in the statement of the EU Foreign Service.
“The EU does not recognize the holding of these elections and their results in Crimea and Sevastopol… None of the “elected” on the illegally annexed Crimean peninsula during these elections and claiming to “represent” the population of Crimea and Sevastopol has legitimacy and will not be recognized,”— indicated on website European External Action Service.
Last year, the US, EU and UK also did not recognize the elections to the State Duma in Crimea, like all previous elections. The referendum on its accession to Russia in 2014 was also not recognized by the majority of UN member states.
By-elections of deputies to the local Legislative Assembly were held in the Republic of Crimea. Pavel Kharlamov, a member of United Russia, was elected to the republican parliament.
