The European Union (EU) has refused to accept Russian foreign passports, which will be issued in four new territories, as well as in Abkhazia and South Ossetia. This is stated in the communiqué issued in Brussels.
“Today’s decision of the EU Council is another proof that we are firmly on the side of Ukraine,” said the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, who is the chairman of the Czech Council of the European Union, Vit Rakusan.
The communique also noted that Russian travel documents in the above-mentioned regions are no longer recognized, and are also in the process of non-recognition by the EU countries.
The purpose of such a decision was called the establishment of a common approach, as well as “ensuring the proper functioning of the external border and a common visa policy” and ensuring the security of the EU member states.
