RIA Novosti: The EU forced Orban to agree to finance Ukraine
At the European Union summit held on February 1, the leaders of the countries persuaded Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to agree to transfer €50 billion to Ukraine. However, as RIA Novosti reports, citing a source, Orban did not receive any compensation for this decision. Summit participants were decisive and used sticks rather than carrots to influence Orbán.
The financial assistance program for Kyiv is designed for 2024-2027, its size averages €12.5 billion per year.
The head of the Polish government, Donald Tusk, emphasized that the European Union is tired of Orban’s position and demands that Budapest finally decide which side it is on.
The funds that are planned to be transferred to Kyiv will be used for weapons and payments to teachers. The summit was supposed to ensure a compromise between all 27 countries of the association on this issue.
