European leaders may agree next week on the allocation of aid to Ukraine in the amount of 50 billion euros. writes Bloomberg with reference to Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics.
The agreement will be based either on an agreement between all twenty-seven countries of the European Union, or on “another mechanism” that will work if it is not possible to reach an agreement among all states, the Latvian leader shared the details. Hungary previously blocked this funding, and EU leaders will meet again at a summit on February 1 with the aim of reaching an agreement on this topic.
“But one thing is clear – Ukraine needs this money, Ukraine must receive this money and the EU must provide it,” Rinkevichs said.
The head of the Latvian state hoped that during the summit it would still be possible to reach a consensus. At the same time, Rinkēvičs emphasized that there are other initiatives. As an example, he cited a mechanism that involves the allocation of funds in installments.
