The EU Court of Justice partially canceled interim measures against racer Nikita Mazepin

The Court of Justice of the European Union (EC) has decided to partially cancel interim measures against the Russian Formula 1 racer Nikita Mazepin. Order The trial was published in the Official Journal of the EU.

In September, the court decided to extend the restrictions imposed on Nikita Mazepin after the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine for another six months. In the ruling, the court also ordered the Council of the EU to take measures to issue Nikita Mazepin visas from EU member countries.

The Council appealed this decision, since the issuance of visas is the responsibility of the EU member states themselves, and not the Council. “The ruling of the President of the General Court of the European Union in the case Mazepin v. Council is annulled. The case is returned to the General Court of the European Union,” the document says.

Nikita Mazepin competed in Formula 1 for the American Haas team. In March 2022, he came under EU sanctions along with his father, Dmitry Mazepin, owner of the Uralkali company, which was one of the title sponsors of Haas. Haas also refused to cooperate with Nikita Mazepin. He challenged the sanctions in the EU court in Luxembourg.
