The country’s national team prepared for qualification for three months, but at the end of October the players were announced that they would not qualify for the World Cup.
The African team, according to the publication’s source, fears that the players will not return to their country after matches abroad. Since 2009, according to statistics, over 60 players have escaped and sought political asylum while traveling abroad.
The Eritrean National Football Federation did not comment on the situation.
