The Latvian Embassy in Russia has suspended the acceptance of visa applications from Russians for an indefinite period, the press service of the diplomatic mission said in a statement.
“Due to the international situation, the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in the Russian Federation has suspended the acceptance of applications for a visa for citizens of the Russian Federation for an indefinite period,” the message says.
The diplomatic mission’s Twitter also states that participation in the funeral of a close relative will be an exception.
The day before, Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu proposed to include in the next package of sanctions a ban on issuing entry visas to the European Union for Russians. According to him, Russia should be even more “isolated” from other countries. This measure should be included in the new package of sanctions against Russia, which will be agreed at the end of August, he added.
At the end of July, Estonia stopped issuing study visas and residence permits to Russians. It was clarified that citizens of Russia and Belarus will not be able to register documents for short-term employment and apply for a long-term Estonian visa, even if they have grounds for legal stay in the country from another EU state.
