Talks between Putin and Erdogan begin in Sochi

Talks between Russian and Turkish Presidents Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan began in Sochi. The conversation takes place in the Green Hall of the building “Imperial” of the sanatorium “Rus”. According to TASS, the negotiations are held in a narrow format.
“European partners should be grateful to Turkey for ensuring uninterrupted transit of our gas to the European market,” Mr. Putin said, opening negotiations with Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The President of Russia announced the signing of a memorandum on the development of trade and economic ties.
“I believe that our talks will open a new page in relations between the two countries. I include here issues of energy cooperation, issues of grain exports in the Black Sea, tourism, regional issues,” the Turkish President said (quoted by RIA Novosti).
After opening remarks, the heads of state will hold talks behind closed doors. After them, the presidents will not hold a press conference because of Mr. Erdogan’s schedule.
By data “Kommersant”, the heads of state behind closed doors will discuss the issues of increasing trade turnover, cooperation in the energy and defense industries, and the implementation of strategic projects.
According to the Turkish news agency Anadolu, during the talks, the presidents will touch upon the issues of resolving the situation in Syria and “removing obstacles” in the transportation of Ukrainian grain from the Black Sea ports.
Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that the heads of state would talk about the situations in Syria, Ukraine, Nagorno-Karabakh, and the expansion of trade and economic ties. According to him, the presidents will also discuss the construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant by the Russian Rosatom.
Last time Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan met in Tehran on July 19. Then the meeting was held within the framework of the trilateral summit in the “Astana format”. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was also among the participants. During that meeting, Mr. Putin thanked Recep Tayyip Erdogan for “providing a Turkish platform for negotiations” on Ukrainian grain.
