US steps to be drawn into a hybrid confrontation with Russia in the context of the Ukrainian crisis may turn into a military conflict between nuclear powers, says in a statement published on Telegram by the Russian embassy in the United States.
“Today, the United States continues to act without regard to the security and interests of other countries, which contributes to increasing nuclear risks. American steps to further engage in a hybrid confrontation with Russia in the context of the Ukrainian crisis are fraught with unpredictable escalation and a direct military clash of nuclear powers.
The diplomatic mission pointed to the rhetoric of the US administration about the allegedly irresponsible actions of Russia, which has the status of a nuclear power. According to the diplomats, it is “strange” for them to hear such accusations from a country that in 1945 “subjected the atomic bombing of the civilian population of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.”
“Our country conscientiously fulfills its obligations as a nuclear state and makes every effort to reduce nuclear risks,” the embassy stressed. Diplomats advised Washington to pay attention to “its own nuclear policy.”
The day before, US State Department spokesman Ned Price called the actions of the Russian military near the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant “the pinnacle of irresponsibility.” He also called for the return of the nuclear power plant to Ukrainian control.
Earlier in the United States, there were already proposals to transfer the Zaporizhzhya NPP to the Ukrainian side. White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre urged Moscow to “cease all hostilities at or near Ukrainian nuclear facilities and return full control to Ukraine.” The same call was made by the foreign ministers of the G7 countries.
